The Catholic Association of Teachers of Homiletics (CATH) is the professional guild of Catholic homileticians in North America. The nonprofit is affiliated with the larger ecumenical society, the Academy of Homiletics. Internally, CATH provides peer support for members to strengthen the teaching of preaching. Through the mutual sharing of study, scholarship, and praxis, the organization bolsters the professional development of its members. To the broader Church community, CATH promotes the significance of Catholic preaching as integral to the liturgy in proclaiming the Good News. The organization has also been a key contributor of resources and consultation to the USCCB in their responsibility for the continuing formation of preachers. Historically, CATH has developed programs in preaching for the preparation of priests, deacons, and non-ordained ministers, as well as advocating for the development of advanced degree courses in homiletics within Catholic theological schools.
